All about Homeschool Laws

Homeschool Options

There are different homeschool laws in different states. In some states, the parents can homeschool their child under a homeschool stature. In others, they come under private laws. Different states also allow umbrella schools and private tutors to homeschool the child. Furthermore, some states have diverse packages and options for a highly customizable homeschooling plan to offer the best solution to both children and parents.

Notification

Certain states require parents to notify government officials of the homeschooling plan or package. In other states, the homeschool law is different and parents are thoroughly assessed before being permitted to homeschool their child. Still, other states are different and require no notification procedure at all. Hence, the state also determines the type of homeschool law prevailing in the area and the laws that every parent will abide to.

Parent Qualifications

Naturally, you need to have a decent education yourself in order to be able to teach your child. Where it is not as important to prove your education in most states, certain states have homeschool laws in place that require parents to have high school diploma or GED to be eligible to homeschool their children.

Subjects

Moving on, certain states have even more thorough rules and regulations. They require children to have certain necessary subjects in their course. Also, they require that parents give their children a certain amount of time on a daily basis and can even provide instruction manuals for parents to follow. This allows states to ensure that every child is provided with fundamental knowledge, even if they are homeschooled.

Be Smart About Higher Education

Trying to understand who you are involves more than, but there are three basic ways to get started with the process:

Time tracking

At one point listening to a personal development expert, the challenge was made to meticulously measure my time spent each day in about eight categories. Note that the normal tendency is to grossly underestimate or have no clear recall of time spent during the day. So true!

Measuring in detail I discovered that 18 hours of my week was spent watching TV! That’s more than one day, not counting sleep, per week, 52 days per year, and over a year and a half per decade! A blatant failure to be smart that needed addressed. Higher education requires wisdom, beware of not only TV, but all screen time that is useless and erodes academic performance and rich experiences.

Talents used

“Yea, but I don’t know what my talents are!” Having this dilemma is common, but is never resolved by ignoring the problem. A great college basketball coach Adolph Rupp stated, “Whenever you see a man on top of a mountain you can be sure he didn’t fall there.”

Get help discovering talents by getting feedback from family and friends. Take the feedback and determine the elements that transfer to job skills. Avid readers need to consider being a writer for the school newspaper. Take photos for the yearbook. Churches are always looking for musicians and singers. Enjoyment coaching little kids may build foundational skills that lead to mentoring executives.

Skill is not a big issue when volunteering. Give a fair trial period while getting the feedback of others involved in this activity to assess the value of staying or trying something else. The advantage of all this volunteering is knowing who you are in regard to personal talents makes the choice of a higher education major easier.

Treasure disbursed

Good detectives know to follow the path of money spent to determine motive, location, and habits of criminals that eventually lead to an arrest. Follow the money is a rule to find out who you are. College students going into debt are hoping that the investment into higher education reaps a great return on investment. A number of alternatives exist that can help reduce or eliminate debt.

Being smart about it takes discipline and a lot of hard work especially if parents are only able to help a little or not at all. Debunk myths like going to an Ivy League school is the only way to get a great job. Just not true!

Stress of Exams

Firstly, it is important to plan your life out. Since you have such a busy schedule, it is important to plan almost every second of your life for the next few months in order to be able to properly prepare for everything. Having a daily, weekly or even monthly planner can help you evaluate what you have to do and when you have to do them. University applications have deadlines that you are pressed to meet. Putting down these deadlines and crafting a few deadlines of your own could be helpful. Fixing the dates for studying can help to ensure that you do not procrastinate studying for these important exams. Also, putting down things that you need to do-like buy stationery for the exams- can ensure that you do them on time.

It is important that you talk to people. Keeping these feelings bottled up inside of you can be dangerous for your health. Your teachers and parents are only being hard on you because they know how much work you have to do and they want to make sure that you get all of it done. But if you still feel like they are pressurizing you too much, tell them how you feel. They will most likely want to assist you in any way that they can. Also, you may feel that everyone is out to get you because of a few unrelated incidents. Talking to your friends about these problems can help you get different perspectives of the situation. If you feel uncomfortable talking about your issues to someone, writing in a journal can help. Expressing your feelings is important in helping you not to get too stressed out.

Lastly, it is important to pray. Every decision that you make should be carried to the Lord in prayer. It is only God that knows what is good for you and only He knows his will. The will of God must be at the back of your head. The Bible says that all those who love God should ask and they shall receive. Strengthen your relationship with God through prayer, meditation, Bible studies and righteous deeds. Pray with friends for the Bible says, when three or more are gathered in my name, know that I am with them also.

Tutor for Child

The key to enhancing a student’s poor results in his exams is home tuition. A home tutor will be able to adjust his teaching styles to suit the student’s individual learning needs. The tutor can also focus and help by imparting him with vital skills and exam strategies that will boost his self esteem and confidence to perform better in his studies and exams.

One of the most powerful tools and study strategies that a tutor can use is the internet. With the whole world at the student’s fingertips, there are always valuable study resources and tools the student can easily access to improve his knowledge. The internet offers a new perspective to students worldwide and often brings about the epiphany that is the signal of true learning.

Home Tuition to Improve Examination Scores

A third of the 500 parents interviewed in the Straits Times study mentioned that their children scored higher grades and their academic results improved significantly prior to their engaging a home tutor for their children. By engaging the right home tutor who is well qualified and experienced, it is a success pathway for true academic achievement for a student.

General Tutor versus a Subject Specialist Tutor

A general tutor is usually able to help a student with their core subjects which are English, Maths, Science and Mother Tongue Language subjects. The tutor will teach and help the student to study more effectively to perform better in his daily works and exams.

A subject specialist tutor will teach and train a student on a specific subject only.

For example, a student seeking to enter who wants to be a lawyer will need to ace his English and General Paper. A subject specialist tutor can help a student to excel in the subject he is teaching by helping his student to focus more on exam strategies. He can also teach his student how to apply the strategies successfully and effectively in his studies and exams.

Professional Tutors

In Singapore, where competitive testing is part of every student’s daily challenges in his studies and exams, there are thousands of people who can claim to be tutors. The most important thing for parents or students to do is to engage tutors who are well trained, experienced and committed. Parents should always interview the tutor and check out his credentials, experience and teaching philosophy before engaging the tutor.
